Description
The vintageKodak Disc 8000
was a revolutionary point-and-shoot camera developed with a flat disc film format so that it could fit easily into a pocket--much like today's cell phone. The
8000
was manufactured from 1982-84 and was the top of the line model with an
SRP of 3 (2 today)
. The
8000
had auto-disc advance, self-timer, 3-shot burst mode, built-in electronic flash, LCD alarm clock and a flip-over lens cover which doubled as a camera stand.
This camera uses
VR, HR
and
Gold
disc format film.
The flat nature of the format gives it the potential advantage of greater sharpness over spool-based formats because of its
thick acetate
base, comparable in thickness with 4×5" sheet film
. However, in many cases the film wasn't processed using Kodak's 6 element lens as intended which didn't produce the expected quality. This led to the discontinuation of the last camera in 1987.
